jowog (joint youth working group)

JOWOG was borne out of the recognition that a national dialogue platform for youth engagement/interface with key policy, government and business stakeholders was necessary if youth are to contribute meaningfully towards peace and nation-building.  In 2012, VIVA held a first ever, National Youth Dialogue Forum (NYDF) in Bhora, Murewa. 18 diverse youth organisations came together to identify strategies, opportunities and entry points for increased youth participation and involvement in peace and nation building processes. The NYDF led to the formation of JOWOG by 12 member organizations from the forum. By virtue of being the “Convener” VIVA was appointed the Secretariat of JOWOG.
Since inception in 2012, the JOWOG has became the preferred, diverse and inclusive national youth platform in Zimbabwe. Inevitably JOWOG has become the ideal hub for exchanging knowledge, skills and sharing ideas, information and experiences for peace and nation building among youth and national stakeholders.  JOWOG’s strong partnerships and collaborations with government ministries, arms of government, civic society, faith based organizations, public and private sector institutions has enabled it to build a shared youth vision in Zimbabwe, and simultaneously, strengthen the capacities of its member organizations to enable them to participate and engage in national processes.
